FAQ

Common Questions

What is CBD? What is it used for?

CBD (cannabidiol) is a molecule that can be extracted from the hemp plant and contains beneficial properties that work well with our endocannabinoid system, in order to promote homeostasis in the body. CBD is a naturally occurring substance that is used in products like oils and edibles, to support the overall health of your body, in addition to relieving stress and anxiety, imparting the feeling of relaxation and calm, supporting sleep, alleviating pain and inflammation, easing sore joints and nourishing skin.

What are Cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are molecules that are produced naturally by the body, plants and animals. Cannabinoids produced by plants are known as phytocannabinoids, while cannabinoids produced endogenously in the body are called endocannabinoids. Phytocannabinoids are able to interact with our body’s natural systems because their makeups and behaviors mimic endocannabinoids, which are cannabinoids that are synthesized on demand by our own bodies.

Both phytocannabinoids and endocannabinoids join with or influence cannabinoid receptors throughout the body to alter the release of neurotransmitters and encourage balance in our systems. Cannabinoids are largely responsible for the natural effects that cannabis oils, such as CBD hemp oil, have on the body.

What is the endocannabinoid system?

The endocannabinoid system, a network of receptors, regulates homeostasis within our body. The endocannabinoid system is involved in a wide variety of processes, including pain, memory, mood, appetite, stress, sleep, metabolism, immune function, and reproductive function. The system’s receptors are activated by endocannabinoids produced within the body, but the receptors can also be activated by CBD products, both orally and topically.

What are Terpenes (or Terpenoids)?

Terpenes are the organic compounds produced by plants and flowers that contribute to how things smell and taste. Research has demonstrated that hemp terpenes provide not only flavor and aroma, but they also work synergistically to support other cannabinoids (like CBD) found in hemp. When taken alone, cannabinoids may not achieve the same level of benefits as when combined with terpenes. Hemp plants contain over one hundred different terpenes, and depending on the type of extraction process used, these can (and should) be preserved in the final product.

What is the difference between Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum and Isolate CBD products?

Full-spectrum means that the product contains the full spectrum of compounds (cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, etc.) found in the hemp plant, including the cannabinoid, THC. Isolate CBD products are made from pure CBD isolate that has been singly separated from the hemp distillate extract. These products contain nothing else from the hemp plant except for CBD – no terpenes, no other beneficial cannabinoids. Broad spectrum products are the same as full spectrum except that all traces of THC have been removed.

What is the difference between THC and CBD?

CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid molecule that has been extracted from hemp and is shown to support balance and regulation in the body. THC is a psychoactive cannabinoid molecule that is extracted from the marijunanna plant. The plant they are extracted from is the main difference between the two, as well as the influence each cannabinoid has on the body.

What is Zero-THC?

Zero-THC means that there is none of the psychoactive cannabinoid, THC, contained in the product.

What is API?

Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) is an active ingredient in a drug product to directly affect the “diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment or prevention of disease or to affect the structure and function of the body. The active ingredient is contained in medicine for prescription purposes. KND Biopharma is a GMP Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) Certified supply chain partner of CBD ingredients for global consumer products, providing access of cannabinoids to the pharmaceutical industry.

Extraction Process

What extraction process does KND use? Why did you select this method?

KND Labs uses the denatured ethyl alcohol extraction method for efficiency, safety, and purity.

What is winterizing? Does KND winterize?

Winterization is the removal of lipids, fats, and waxes from the crude extract. These components can dilute the cannabinoid fraction, in turn, lowering the purity. All of KND Labs’ crude is fully winterized, unless specified otherwise from our customers.

How does KND distill crude?

KND Labs crude is distilled through a continuous two-stage distillation process. This method ensures the efficient and consistent separation of multiple components present in the crude extract, such as terpenes, chlorophyll, flavonoids, other lipids and plant by-products. The removal of these components results in an end product of a consistent, pure full spectrum CBD distillate.

How does KND distill extract oil?

Our extract oil is distilled through a continuous two-stage distillation process. This method ensures the consistent and efficient separation of many components present in the crude extract, such as terpenes, chlorophyll, flavonoids, other lipids and plant by-products. The removal of these components results in an end product of a consistent, pure full spectrum CBD distillate.

Does KND lose terpenes during distillation?

Yes; our distillation process removes specific terpenes. Some of these terpenes will carry through into our distilatres and we are able to add naturally-derived plant and cannabis terpenes back post-distillation to customer specifications.

Does KND lose cannabinoids during distillation?

In this specific distillation method/process you typically won’t lose any cannabinoids. The resulting distillate is more concentrated in CBD and any of the other minor cannabinoids that were present in the extract oil.

THC Removal Process

What methods does KND use to remove THC?

We employ a chromatography process to remove the THC molecules and separate minor cannabinoids, which preserves a broad spectrum of cannabinoids in our ingredients.
